thanks to Neil the problem will be fixed very soon.
Yet another reason why we will have to move to
GCC 3.0.2.  Prepare for the upgrade.

I've fixed the -C issues in 3.1.  Fixes will also be going into 3.0.2
soon, including the issue you mentioned in your mail.
