Bug in C++ interface (comparison between rational and double)

The comparison between mpz_class and double works fine with +inf and -inf, while the comparison between mpq_class and double gives a floating point exception, due to inappropriate mpq_set_d call in eval specialization. I see two way to fix this: 1) add support for comparison between mpq and double in C interface and use that in gmpxx.h 2) add infinity (and nan) check in comparison eval specializations in gmpxx.h IMHO 1) gives a more complete solution. To compile normal GNU projects I just type "gmake" instead of "make". This works for PPL, but in run_tests we shift back to the BSD make. A simple solution is to just set MAKE=gmake. But i would prefer a nice auto detection like for gm4, this one is great. After running the test suite with gnu make, it got one failure: failed tests: test02 test03 FAIL: propagateconstraints2 How can I help you to debug this one? In the Parma Polyhedra Library, we found out that, for mpz_mul(), checking the source arguments against 0 gives rise to significant speedups in some algorithms. We thought (but we are not sure) that this is indeed a feature, and not a limitation: since only the client code can know about the frequence of special cases, let the client code take the decision. The alternative would be that GMP does a lot of checks that are possibly useless, perhaps duplicating work that has already been done by the client code. I am glad you raised the issue here and I hope Torbjorn will correct me if I misinterpreted the GMP's policies in this respect. Opposing inequality to equality conversion.

Hi, I'm trying to verify a claim in Halbwachs' paper on factoring polyhedra ("Some ways to reduce the space dimension in polyhedra computations" is the journal version). Specifically, he claims that omitting a common equality relation from the convex hull computation yields not significant speedup. I've tried to run a convex hull calculation, once with the common equalities added and once with the common equalities omitted and found quite a difference in performance. However, I added the equality as two opposing inequalities. My question: are the two opposing inequalities not immediately turned into one equality by the Constraint class? If not, then this might explain the speed difference I'm seeing. Any help appreciated, Axel.
