Log message: Added `libppl_java_la_LIBTOOLFLAGS=--tag=disable-static'. This avoids installing the (useless) static library `libppl_java.a', but not the overhead for building it (see http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libtool/2008-10/msg00079.html).
