since the ftp log entries say that the network is reachable from outside, it really seems to be a problem from your side of the network. (I have also tried from a WinXP using IE 7.0.<something> and everything was working.)

I suppose you can workaround the problem by using http:

http://www.cs.unipr.it/ppl/Download/ftp/releases/0.9/ppl-0.9.tar.gz

I wasn't able to identify the failed attempt in the ftp log files ... whereas I have identified other successful attempts from outside of our network (i.e., it does not seem to be a firewall-related problem). Neither I was able to see "time holes" in the log to suggest that the network was down ...

What I have found, instead, was that our web site had a broken link to the _Debian_ distribution. The (now corrected) link is the following:

ftp://ftp.cs.unipr.it/pub/ppl/releases/0.9/Debian/sarge/i386/libppl_0.9.tar.gz

Could it be the case that you were trying downloading the Debian distro, rather than the one reported in the mail message?

Anyway, let us know if things are working now and, if you still have problems, please give us some more info (e.g., when you tried and from what IP address).
