Log message: 1. Eliminated/modified some obsolete comments from Section 3.1; 2. Added remarks on the roots of the characteristic equation in section 2.1.1, and expanded the same section to contain explanations using the language of linear algebra; in particular, introduced a suitable class of specially "summable" sequences; 3. Expanded section on systems of linear recurrences and added appropriate references; 4. Added preliminary comment on prerequisites in section 1; 5. Added section on the reduction of the order.
